We welcome you to our school. Our staff believes every student can learn and deserves the opportunity to perform at his/her highest potential in a safe environment that is conducive to learning. Therefore, there are high expectations for our students. You are the most important component for your child's education. Middle school years are challenging to your child and to you. ECMA Demographic Information
For 2008-09, ECMA has an enrollment of approximately 680 students. We have 49 teachers and 3 paraprofessionals. We also have one principal, one assistant principal, one media specialist, and two counselors.
ECMA History & Resources
East Columbus Magnet Academy was established in 2000. Originally, the mascot was the "Spirit", a metaphysical reference from Native American folklore. Faculty, students, & and parents voted to change the mascot to the "Knights" in 2007.
ECMA is a magnet school for gifted and talented students. Besides its 30 academic classrooms, the campus also includes a spacious gym, a football field, & classrooms for band, orchestra, chorus, art, business, keyboarding, and Spanish. Modern technologies include access to: two fully networked student labs, two mobile wireless labs, fully automated media center with twelve lookup stations and 3-6 computers per classroom . The school is completely networked and connected to the wide area network of the Muscogee County School District.
In addition to the above mentioned classes, the school employs two school counselors, an instructional technology specialist, a media specialist and media clerk, a gifted facilitator, two full time academic coaches, and forty-two classroom teachers.
Student activities, recognition, & clubs include: STAR Student, National Junior Honor Society, T. Hiram Stanley Award, Headliner Awards for Outstanding Eighth Grade Student, Honor Roll, Principal's List, Most Improved Awards, Perfect Attendance Award, academic bowls, Jr. Mu Alpha Theta, Math Team, Spelling Bee, science and social science fairs, student council, chess club, civics club, debate team, Science Olympiad, stamp club, wrestling club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and more.
East Columbus Magnet Academy also has an excellent athletic department that includes: cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, football, soccer, and track. ECMA has won two city championships in football, two regular season championships in both boys and girls basketball, and the 2004 MCSD All-Sports Trophy. ECMA is the only MSCD school to have a wrestling club. The wrestling team has won consecutive Chattahoochee Valley Middle School Championships in 2006 & 2007.
